SOUNDBITES: The Latest News on New Music from the Buffalo Scene

Um, holy shit. So, this new EP from Sweet Talker — titled ‘Not Your Daddy’s Rock and Roll’ — just dropped yesterday seemingly from the sky,’ and yeah, it absolutely rips. Recorded and mixed by the great Jay Zubricky at GCR Audio and mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studio, the new EP from start to finish is an relentless attack of straight-forward no-bullshit rock-n-roll. Featuring members of Exhibition, Big Dog, Buried Alive and Violent Way, the songs on this record come at a furious pace, pushed by an onslaught of ferocious drumming against a backdrop of heavy, driving bass that lends this EP pulse. Especially notable here is the record’s stellar and blistering guitar work throughout. If this EP doesn’t make your blood pump, well, then, you might very well be dead. Get on this record and follow Sweet Talker HERE.

Let’s get this out of the way: The Spit Sisters are an all-female punk band. Yes, we celebrate that and yes, let’s have more of that in Buffalo, please. But that said, let’s recognize The Spit Sisters for what they also are: a really good band of veteran musicians who just put out a really good debut EP titled ‘Nothing Heals.’ This record is a great listen, filled with heavy, melodic rolling bass lines, searing and moody guitar work, spectacular vocals and some very cool drumming, especially on the song ‘Tomb Womb.’  What’s notable too on this EP is the band’s range, delivering everything from Misfits-style punk songs to some gloomy metal/grunge-laden tracks. Yes, The Spit Sisters are an all-female punk band. And they are force to be reckoned with.

Ok, so we’re psyched about this: Filmmaker, musician, record producer, pod host, educator and all-around renaissance man Bran Schlia this Saturday will be premiering his new film “Good Show,” which follows three young punks trying to survive their last night on tour.
