SOUNDBITES: The Latest News on New Music from the Buffalo Scene

Updated: Aug 12

Wylie Something will be out tomorrow with a new single titled ‘Stuck Inside of Memphis with the Springfield Blues Again.’ The single, a very cool song from a very cool and interesting artist, is the first release from Wylie Something’s forthcoming album that’ll be out later this month called ‘Picnic.’ The release of ‘Stuck Inside of Memphis…’ tomorrow will also mark the pre-order for copies of the ‘Picnic’ album and cassettes. So, get on that. If you dig tunes with a psych-folk singer-songwriter vibe, Wylie Something is for you. Jump on his Bandcamp page to listen to, follow and buy his music. Meanwhile, watch 1120 Press for more news in the near future on the release of the album, ‘Picnic.’

Buffalo hardcore band Juggernaut will be out with a new four-song record on cassette this coming Friday, Aug. 9.  Titled ‘Comatose Congregation,’ the new music will be available as part of a cassette run through @deathfarmrecords. The band will then be following the cassette release of ‘Comatose Congregation’ in the near future with digital, CD and LP issues. Stayed tuned for more news on that. Juggernaut also will be part of a five-band bill at the Rec Room on Sept. 26 with Cleveland’s Last Gasp and Time X Heist from Colorado. The bill will also feature the excellent Buffalo bands Kill Uncle and World on Fire. See more on that show HERE. Meanwhile, you can visit the Death Farm website HERE.

Owl Lounge has dropped a really great new song. Titled ‘Madison,’ the single was produced and recorded by Buffalo Underground Records. The song is well-crafted and lyrically beautiful, and completely worth your while. We’ve had it on heavy rotation all weekend. Listen to the single HERE.

Speaking of Buffalo Underground Records, which is run by Jeremy Hewett who is also a member of the Buffalo indie band Bighorn Sheep, it’s time for the annual Muttonfest music festival. The festival runs this Friday through Sunday at Hogarosa Campgrounds in Springville. You can buy festival tickets HERE. Started by Bighorn Sheep more than a decade ago, this DIY fest continues to grow both musically and in size and scope of its offerings. There will be 16 bands performing during the festival and you can check out this year’s lineup  HERE. 1120 Press reported on this year’s Muttonfest not too long ago. You can read that piece HERE.

We’re a bit late on this one, so our apologies but while we were pouring through and catching up on new Buffalo music during vacation we came across the fantastic new band, medium.chaos, which just dropped a new single on July 9. The song is called ‘Canker Sore,’ and you can check it out HERE. While you’re at it, check out their other release, too, titled ‘Big Old Tree.’ This band has a really cool sound, and we look forward to hearing more from them.

The ever-innovative Dotsun Moon has released two new singles. Titled ‘Giving Up the Tears’ and ‘Army of Me,’ you can listen to the songs HERE. Dotson Moon’s sound is a quite distinct one on the Buffalo scene and the new singles exude a very cool dreamy neo-psych/new wave vibe. Be sure to take some time to spin these tunes.

Tough Old Bird, the excellent Buffalo contemporary folk band, has a new video out for their song ‘Conjurer.’ The video by Nickle City B-Sides can be watched HERE. ‘Conjurer’ is a release off Tough Old Bird’s latest album released in April called ‘Garden Dream’ which we highly recommend. Listen to ‘Garden Dream’ HERE. And subscribe to Nickle City B-Sides HERE; they do phenomenal work, both in their craft and in highlighting the talent throughout Buffalo’s music scene.
