Just in time for Christmas, the electro-pop synth duo Urge Surfer has dropped a new single, this one a unique remake of the John Lennon song ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over.) The side project of Stress Dolls members Chelsea O’Donnell and Jordan Smith, Urge Surfer’s synth-driven take on the Lennon classic is as interesting as it is daring. As Jordan tells it: “Last week, Chelsea texted me: ‘I wish I had thought of it sooner, but it would be fun to do an Urge Surfer Christmas cover.’ Seven days later, here it is.’” The song was dropped on Bandcamp. You can follow Urge Surfer and listen to the new song HERE.
Speaking of Christmas songs, Buffalo punk-pop band Skyway dropped their own Christmas tune called “Christmas Again.” You can check out the song at this link. The skate punk trio has been quite prolific as of late, releasing three songs in a span of five weeks. The two other new singles include the post-election single ‘Uncomfortably Numb’ and the banger ‘Last of a Dying Scene.’
The hardworking heavy rock band Little Liar has been in the studio, writing and recording its forthcoming new EP. While there’s no release date just yet for the new record, the band confirmed to 1120 Press that its plan is to drop a single on Jan. 1. Stay tuned.
Muddle news! The very cool Buffalo punk band is now working on a new album. We’re pretty psyched about this and 1120 Press will be coming out with a story on the band this week. Listen to Muddle. Here’s one of our favorite songs.
While we’re on the subject of new records and artists we’ll be writing about, Alex Behrens, who performs under the name Everythings, has released a new EP titled ‘again for the first time,’ which you can listen to HERE. The six-song, nearly 19-minute record is an absolutely gorgeous piece of work which we’ve had on very heavy rotation. We’ll be publishing a story on this record in the upcoming days, so please keep watch. You may know Alex’s work too from the excellent Wife and Kids duo, which also includes Joe Morganti (Spaced & gas station.) Get on this EP, available now on streaming platforms.
Adam Putzer — the former guitarist for The Tins who now performs solo as asalone — has wrapped up a new single called “Ghost, Almost.” The song is now being mixed and a drop date has not yet been scheduled. asalone has joined forces recently with the prolific artist and multi-instrumentalist Joey B. (Twin Affairs, solo). The two will be playing Milkie’s together on Thursday night at 8 p.m. where asalone will debut the new song.
